Torah High is an Ontario Ministry of Education-inspected private school offering high school credit courses for Jewish students in Grades 9–12. Classes meet once a week after school and combine academics with Jewish learning, values, and experiences. At our GTA locations, students are also served a light dinner from various local restaurants.
What makes Torah High different from a regular high school course?
Students can earn Ontario high school credits while connecting their learning to Jewish life. Courses are engaging, relevant, and taught in a welcoming environment with exciting opportunities that extend beyond the classroom!
What courses and credits does Torah High offer?
Torah High offers a variety of Jewish Studies and general studies courses. All Torah High courses are Ministry-approved and count toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Course offerings vary by grade, location, and year.
Why do Torah High courses run for the full school year?
Meeting once a week throughout the year allows students to complete the required instructional hours while keeping the workload manageable alongside regular high school. It also gives students more time to build friendships and connect with their teachers.
Will my Torah High credit appear on my high school transcript?
Torah High sends your course information and final grade directly to your home school. Your home school maintains your Ontario Student Record (OSR) and official Ontario Student Transcript (OST), where eligible completed credits are recorded. Torah High does not issue your transcript directly.
Why does Torah High need my OEN?
Your Ontario Education Number (OEN) allows us to accurately report your Torah High course and final grade for inclusion in your Ontario Student Record (OSR).
Can I take Torah High if I already selected my regular school courses?
Yes. Torah High is an additional after-school course, so you can register even after choosing your regular school courses.
Can I take a course above my current grade level?
In some cases, yes. Students may be able to take a course above their current grade level if they meet the required prerequisites. Contact us if you’re unsure which courses you’re eligible to take.
Is it true Torah High students receive $500 toward a trip to Israel?
Yes! Torah High students receive a $500 voucher toward a trip to Israel, giving them another opportunity to deepen their Jewish connection beyond the classroom!
How much homework should I expect?
Students should expect some assignments and independent work, but the workload is designed to be manageable alongside regular high school responsibilities.
Are there tests or exams?
Yes. Torah High courses include assessments and a final evaluation. Exams are open book, and assessment dates are planned with students’ regular school schedules in mind whenever possible.
What happens if I miss a class?
Attendance is very important, and absences can affect a student’s mark. If you need to miss a class, please inform the Torah High office. Students should also check Google Classroom for missed lessons, assignments, and anything else needed to catch up and stay on track.
What is experiential learning at Torah High?
Every Torah High student is required to complete a minimum of 10 experiential learning hours as part of their course. Eligible experiences can include Jewish Student Union (JSU) club attendance, Learn & Earn, Shabbatons, holiday programs, volunteer opportunities, trips, special programs, and more. Please note that Shabbatons are offered at an additional fee, and some experiential programs may include a minor surcharge.
Does Torah High accommodate students with IEPs?
Yes. Students with an official Individual Education Plan (IEP) should submit a copy when registering. Torah High works with families to provide appropriate accommodations wherever possible.
Who teaches at Torah High?
Torah High courses are taught by experienced educators and inspiring Jewish role models who create a supportive, engaging classroom environment.
What is Torah High’s cancellation policy?
Students who wish to withdraw must notify the Torah High office by October 31 to receive a partial refund, less the $100 administrative fee. After October 31, or if the Torah High office is not notified of the withdrawal, the full registration fee remains payable.
